David Beckham has made a bit of a name for himself with his breath-taking free kicks and dazzling assists.
Well, the England and LA Galaxy star added another sort of assist to his long list of achievements. He stoppped and helped a stranded motorist while en route to training with Tottenham Hotspur.
Though many MLS fans are unhappy with Becks for not having returned to LA for preseason training, Paul Long and his two children couldn’t be more appreciative of the soccer star’s current choice of location.
Check out the ITN News coverage of the story, including audio of Mr. Long’s account.

New York Red Bulls star Thierry Henry plays the leading role in Renault’s latest TV commercial. The Frenchy waltzes through tres chic scenes, flashing images of Audrey Hepburn, Dita Von Teese, and… Sawyer?!?

Le gasp!
France’s L’Equipe is reporting that representatives of the New York Red Bulls have made a secret trip across the pond to inquire about acquiring the services of one Nicolas Anelka.
Initially, the news is pretty shocking. But once you let it set in a bit, things start to make sense. New York needs to replace the goal-scoring presence formerly filled by Juan Pablo Angel, and with Fernando Torres’ arrival at Chelsea, Anelka has certainly been knocked down a peg.
It would be a pricey deal, but the thought of France’s former frontline — Henry/Anelka — being reunited in the MLS is mouth-watering.
This is far from being real news, but these are tasty rumors.

After a month of negotiations, the LA Galaxy have finally sealed the deal with former New York Red Bull captain Juan Pablo Angel. The team has been searching for a goal-scoring replacement for Bundesliga-bound Edson Buddle, and they have found a more-than-suitable replacement.
Red Bulls fans were uneasy at the news of JPA’s exit at the end of last season. They’ll surely be even more uncomfortable with where he’s landed. No, the striker isn’t with a conference rival, but LA represents New York’s glamour rival. This move has tipped the star-factor balance in favor of the Hollywooders. The Donovan-Beckham-Angel combo certainly outshines that of Henry-Marquez.
Will letting JPA go come back to haunt the Red Bulls?
All signs point to Yes.

Which aspect of this photo is more shocking?
The 30-pound cake? or the absence of an Akron player?
The Vancouver Whitecaps surprised the soccer world with the #1 selection of Omar Salgado. Pundit after pundit had predicted that Akron’s Darlington Nagbe and Perry Kitchen would stand as the top two draft picks, but clearly, the Canadians had other ideas. Many think they even stoked the discussion of the Akron players to throw other teams off the scent of their plans. Saucy!
Other notable aspects of the draft:
Five of the first eight draft picks came from the NCAA Champion Akron team.
Wayne Rooney’s little bro, John, was selected in the 2nd round by the New York Red Bulls.
Solid contingents of fans showed up in support of DC United, Philadelphia Union, and New York Red Bulls… Way to be, guys!!!

The MLS Cup Final.
As you’ll see above, upset after upset has led to the unexpected match-up of FC Dallas vs. the Colorado Rapids. It’s not the flashy contest that New York vs. Los Angeles would have promised to be, but these two hard-working teams have scrapped their way tooth-and-nail into the Championship Game.
It is always a bit sad to close the final chapter on another Major League Soccer season, but as with past years, it is encouraging to know that the league is continuing to build momentum in the right direction.
And, before you kiss this season goodbye, check out full match highlights from last night’s culminating event: The MLS Cup Final.

The 2010 MLS Cup is on to the next round with the Colorado Rapids defeating the Columbus Crew, FC Dallas defeating Real Salt Lake, and the LA Galaxy defeating the Seattle Sounders.
This year’s tournament has been wrought with upsets. In fact, 3 of the 4 teams that have qualified for the semifinals defeated higher-seeded opponents. The LA Galaxy are the only #1 or #2 seed that chose to follow convention and best their inferior competitors.
This weekend’s 2nd leg matches were full of excitement with the Rapids winning on penalties… and with a somewhat controversial Beckham corner kick.
All of the 2nd Leg match highlights can be found below:

WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
Who honestly thought the MLS Cup Final would be anything other than the LA Galaxy vs. the NY Red Bulls? It’s looked like the Galaxy’s year since Week 1. And since the addition of Henry and Marquez, it always seemed like the Red Bulls would breeze through the Eastern half of the bracket.
No way, San Jose!
The Earthquakes shook the world last night at Red Bull Arena, as they knocked the Eastern Conference champs out of the MLS Cup.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
