Thierry Henry refuses to give his critics room for complaint. He scored a trademark goal in his Red Bulls debut — and assisted two goals in his Major League Soccer debut against Houston.
Perhaps the change of scenery has provided a jolt in the declining striker’s form. Or perhaps he’s putting on a show for now, with intention of taking his foot off the pedal once the Americans are enamored. Only time will tell.
In a “yo, what up, what’s your deal?” piece written by New York Magazine’s Will Frears, it becomes evident that the Frenchman’s move stateside was born from “I HEART NYC” inspiration. He loves the city for it’s many offerings — namely dope-boy-fresh sneaker shops. But maybe more importantly, he loves the opportunity to live his life with greater anonymity. He knows that this city has sheltered countless famous faces over the years… and he knows that his face is hardly famous on this side of the pond.
Continue to follow Henry with a critical eye, soccer fans. His presence could raise our league’s stature, or it could just be a money-suck.
Fingers-crossed for the former.
