David Beckham has made a bit of a name for himself with his breath-taking free kicks and dazzling assists.
Well, the England and LA Galaxy star added another sort of assist to his long list of achievements. He stoppped and helped a stranded motorist while en route to training with Tottenham Hotspur.
Though many MLS fans are unhappy with Becks for not having returned to LA for preseason training, Paul Long and his two children couldn’t be more appreciative of the soccer star’s current choice of location.
Check out the ITN News coverage of the story, including audio of Mr. Long’s account.

After a month of negotiations, the LA Galaxy have finally sealed the deal with former New York Red Bull captain Juan Pablo Angel. The team has been searching for a goal-scoring replacement for Bundesliga-bound Edson Buddle, and they have found a more-than-suitable replacement.
Red Bulls fans were uneasy at the news of JPA’s exit at the end of last season. They’ll surely be even more uncomfortable with where he’s landed. No, the striker isn’t with a conference rival, but LA represents New York’s glamour rival. This move has tipped the star-factor balance in favor of the Hollywooders. The Donovan-Beckham-Angel combo certainly outshines that of Henry-Marquez.
Will letting JPA go come back to haunt the Red Bulls?
All signs point to Yes.

The 2010 MLS Cup is on to the next round with the Colorado Rapids defeating the Columbus Crew, FC Dallas defeating Real Salt Lake, and the LA Galaxy defeating the Seattle Sounders.
This year’s tournament has been wrought with upsets. In fact, 3 of the 4 teams that have qualified for the semifinals defeated higher-seeded opponents. The LA Galaxy are the only #1 or #2 seed that chose to follow convention and best their inferior competitors.
This weekend’s 2nd leg matches were full of excitement with the Rapids winning on penalties… and with a somewhat controversial Beckham corner kick.
All of the 2nd Leg match highlights can be found below:

“Without a doubt, it is the way it should be… That is the atmosphere in Europe when you go to an away game, and I really enjoyed it.”

AWWWWWWWWWWW!!! How cute! It’s nice to see Landon Donovan have a silly moment. He can be so serious sometimes!

“Awesome day with my new Make-A-Wish buddy Gerardo (a.k.a. “Sonic”). Such a great kid and really inspired me. Goodnight”
So sweet!

The LA Galaxy announced that David Beckham hopes to return to action against the Columbus Crew on September 11. Though he will be far from full match fitness, the club will be excited to have the extra boost off the bench — especially as they find themselves on a bit of a slide.
Beckham spoke about his return from injury:

Coverboy Landon Donovan helped EA Sports unveil the cover of FIFA Soccer 11 this morning with the Facebook post:
“Up early today to announce that I’ll be on the cover of EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 11. If you want to check it out, catch the Late Show with Jimmy Fallon–we’re going to play the new FIFA 11 on his show tonight!”
You’ve to got to admit, though… this cover is a bit random. Kaka — undoubtedly one of the world’s best players — has had a pretty rank year, both in La Liga and the World Cup. Carlos Vela got in a decent amount of PT with Arsenal last season, but by no means played a major role… and was injured for Mexico in South Africa.
Donovan, despite being the least international, deserves his spot on the cover most of the three. He helped lead the LA Galaxy to the MLS Cup final, had a very successful stint in Europe with Everton, and scored three key goals in this summer’s World Cup.
Despite the cover being disjointed, FANunited sends it kudos to Landon for being given the honor.
