Red Bulls: Another Frenchy?

Le gasp!

France’s L’Equipe is reporting that representatives of the New York Red Bulls have made a secret trip across the pond to inquire about acquiring the services of one Nicolas Anelka.

Initially, the news is pretty shocking. But once you let it set in a bit, things start to make sense. New York needs to replace the goal-scoring presence formerly filled by Juan Pablo Angel, and with Fernando Torres’ arrival at Chelsea, Anelka has certainly been knocked down a peg.

It would be a pricey deal, but the thought of France’s former frontline — Henry/Anelka — being reunited in the MLS is mouth-watering.

This is far from being real news, but these are tasty rumors.

Juan Pablo Angel to LA Galaxy

Filed under: LA Galaxy, NY Red Bulls

After a month of negotiations, the LA Galaxy have finally sealed the deal with former New York Red Bull captain Juan Pablo Angel. The team has been searching for a goal-scoring replacement for Bundesliga-bound Edson Buddle, and they have found a more-than-suitable replacement.

Red Bulls fans were uneasy at the news of JPA’s exit at the end of last season. They’ll surely be even more uncomfortable with where he’s landed. No, the striker isn’t with a conference rival, but LA represents New York’s glamour rival. This move has tipped the star-factor balance in favor of the Hollywooders. The Donovan-Beckham-Angel combo certainly outshines that of Henry-Marquez.

Will letting JPA go come back to haunt the Red Bulls?

All signs point to Yes.

MLS Cup 2010: Rapids, Dallas, & Galaxy move on

The 2010 MLS Cup is on to the next round with the Colorado Rapids defeating the Columbus Crew, FC Dallas defeating Real Salt Lake, and the LA Galaxy defeating the Seattle Sounders.

This year’s tournament has been wrought with upsets. In fact, 3 of the 4 teams that have qualified for the semifinals defeated higher-seeded opponents. The LA Galaxy are the only #1 or #2 seed that chose to follow convention and best their inferior competitors.

This weekend’s 2nd leg matches were full of excitement with the Rapids winning on penalties… and with a somewhat controversial Beckham corner kick.

All of the 2nd Leg match highlights can be found below:

With a cracking strike from Dane Richards, the New York Red Bulls have clinched the MLS Eastern Conference title.

And while being conference champs is always impressive, the league is astounded at the complete 180 the NYRB have turned after last season. The team have notched 30 more points than they did a year ago, which is simply unthinkable.

Certainly, adding two Designated Players to your roster can’t hurt. But even still, good on ya NYRB!

Check out the Dane Richards screamer… and listen to NYRB manager Hans Backe discuss the team’s impressive feat.

ADIOS: Juan Pablo Angel to leave Red Bulls

“I know that I won’t be a part of this team next year… For a fact.”

Though details are sparse at this point, Juan Pablo Angel has officially stated that he will not be returning with the New York Red Bulls after the 2010 post-season.

Despite Angel being the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer, the Red Bull administration refused to discuss a contract extension until the winter. So, it’s unclear as to whether this is a retirement or a letting-go… nonetheless, JPA will be missed by New York fans.

Mexico’s Marquez Mutiny.

Translation: “Marquez leads the… MUTINY”

All of the loco fiesta shenanigans are really coming to a boil now! Last week, two Mexican National Team players were suspended from six months of international play for organizing a crazy party after a friendly victory over Colombia. On top of that, the fiesta’s attendees were all slapped with a hefty fine of 50,000 pesos.

Prostitutes and trannies aside, team captain (and NY Red Bull) Rafa Marquez is disgusted with how the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has dealt with the whole ordeal.
